Just because a food is “healthy” doesn’t mean it’s helping your fat-loss phase. Lectins are plant proteins that can disrupt gut health and fuel inflammation in sensitive people—sometimes enough to freeze the scale.

Not everyone needs a strict lectin-free diet. But if you’re in Phase 2, following the protocol, and progress stalls, this list is where many people discover the silent culprit.

Nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, white potatoes) are a special subset—alkaloids like solanine can trigger joint pain or stalled loss for some. Tomatoes, for example, can be nutrient-dense yet still block fat loss until removed.

Photograph everything you eat for a week. If the scale stalls, cross-check this list and eliminate suspects for 2–4 weeks. Reintroduce one food at a time later (often Phase 3) to learn your personal tolerance.

Quick plateau path

  1. Confirm Phase 2 structure (no breakfast fat/sugar, 4–5 oz protein + weighted veg).
  2. Log weight mornings only—same scale, post-bathroom.
  3. Photo every meal for 7 days.
  4. Remove nightshades (tomato, pepper, potato, eggplant) for 14 days.
  5. If still stalled: remove peanuts/peanut butter, then squash family, then other list items.
  6. Use app plateau breaker only after 2 flat/up mornings (steak + Granny Smiths per protocol).

Practical tips

  • Track & testFood diary with photos. If weight stalls 2+ days (or rises), eliminate suspects for 2–4 weeks and re-check the scale under the same morning conditions.
  • Preparation mattersPressure cooking or fermenting lowers lectins in legumes. For nightshades and squash, peel skins and remove seeds—still optional only after you’ve reintroduced carefully.
  • PersonalizationTomatoes may be fine for your spouse and a brick wall for you. Your journal and photos are the experiment log.
  • Smart substitutesSweet potatoes or yams instead of white potatoes; beets or carrots for color/flavor instead of tomato sauces (when your phase allows those foods).
  • Reintroduce wiselyOne food at a time, preferably in Phase 3 maintenance. Keep drops and protein structure stable so you can see the signal.
  • Don’t panic-cut everythingStart with nightshades + peanuts + obvious grains if you’re stuck. Expand the elimination only if needed.
